| The remote starter does for me everything it says it does. I installed it on a 98 Audi A4 and it works fine. Instalation was a breeze (assuming you are friends w/ wires, a multimeter and taking your car's dashboard apart). There are quite a few features on this unit (lots of wires to connect, so if you are not car/wire savvy, I wouldn't recomend, since I'm savvy and it took me about 5 hours (2.5hrs on two separate days) to get it all in. What I love the most about it is the two-way function. From anywhere that I start the car, I can always know if it started or not. This kind of unit installed by a professional shop would run you more than $400, so this is a great deal. I've installed Bulldog brand products on my parent's, friend's, and family's cars for years and never had problems. |
Great product for the price - Worthless tech support

| I have had the unit for over 2 years now and it works great! I use it every day in the winter and often in the summer. It was tricky to install but I have a manual transmission so there were additional steps that I had to do to get it to work. It honestly took me 2 weeks before I got it all hooked up and figured out. The tech support is terrible and never were able to help me with any installation questions so you better be good with electronics and good at troubleshooting problems if you want to attempt to install this yourself. I saved $400 in installation costs by doing it myself and I learned about my cars electrical system while doing it so it was defenitly worth it. It has tons of features and has a long range which is the reason I got it. |
Great Product, Great Service

| Received product in less than 3 days, it has everything that was advertised. I had this product installed the next week and it works great, only thing is that maybe 1 out of every 8 times the remote looses range even when very close to the car and I have to attempt to remote start it 2 or 3 times before it goes, but other than that, no problems. |
Not for beginners, but a top notch product

Okay, after having read some other reviews here, I need to comment. I have installed 3 Deluxe 500 units and several other models of Bulldog starters on my own vehicles. I have used Bulldog starters on my vehicles for 10 years. I am confident in saying that the Deluxe 500 is better than any other remote starter on the market. However:
- if you are not electrically/electronically savvy, don't purchase this
- don't purchase and expect your local shop to install it
- don't purchase and expect your buddy to install it
- depending on your vehicle, for 1st time installers, anticipate at least 16 hours to fully install the unit and program all options
- the remotes can die after a few years, keep an extra on hand
- get the T-harness
- research and be sure to get any additional relays and security bypass units needed for you vehicle as prescribed on the Bulldog website
- solder connections as prescribed in the instructions, don't use crimp connectors
- recommend having the shop manual with wiring diagrams available for your vehicle, wiring harness colors don't always match between the Bulldog documentation as car manufacturers can change their wiring scheme within a specific make/model/year
- don't expect tech support to bail you out
Having said all this, I work in an office with 12 other people that have remote starters. My Deluxe 500 is the only unit that will start my vehicle without walking out the parking lot. The unit is fully two-way, many starters claim to be two-way, but don't fully communicate to you when they are in range and when the vehicle has successfully started. The remote is labeled by function with images. Competing products often have remotes with buttons labeled "1", "2", "3", etc which means you have to memorize the functions for each operation.
Finally, I have had several other brands of remote starters in used cars that I have purchased. Without exception, I have ended up pulling those units out and replacing them with Bulldog units.

The Best Remote Car Starter

This is the best remote starter. I have used many and none have the range and are as easy to use. I installed it myself and it was fairly simple. It took about two hours to get it all working. (including door and trunk locks and alarm)
I have had another one of these for about 3 years with no problems. The two way remote is nice when you can't see the car, it tells you when it is started. It also tells the temperature in the car. This is a nice feature if you travel with a pet and leave the car to shop or eat. It also has alarm feature that not only sounds alarm if the car is broken in to but it also alerts the remote control. |
